  • 19th Century British Library Newspapers - Full runs of over 60 influential national and regional newspapers from the 19th century, representing different political and cultural viewpoints. Includes, for example, The Chartist; Cobbett's Weekly Political Register; Birmingham Daily Post.

  • Burney Collection - The newspapers, pamphlets, and books gathered by the Reverend Charles Burney (1757-1817) represent the largest and most comprehensive collection of early English news media.

  • Digital Dissertations and Theses (ProQuest) - Dissertations and Theses (formerly Digital Dissertations) indexes international doctoral dissertations and masters theses from 1861 to the present.

  • English Short Title Catalogue - Online bibliography of books published in English or in England between 1473 and 1800, including locations of known copies. Contains items formerly listed in the Wing and Pollard and Redgrave Short Title catalogues. Please note that you may not be able to view all of the electronic locations as these are links to external sites.

  • Exam Paper Database - The Exam Paper Database holds many years worth of past examination papers.

  • Financial Times 1996+ (ProQuest) - Full-text of the Financial Times Newspaper, 1996+.

  • Foreign Broadcast Information Service (FBIS) Daily Reports 1974-1996 - The FBIS Daily Report has been the United States' principal record of political and historical open source intelligence for nearly 70 years.

  • House of Commons Parliamentary Papers - Contains searchable full text of House of Commons Papers, Command Papers, Bills, Reports of Committees and Commissioners from 1715 to the present.

  • Index to Theses - A comprehensive listing of theses with abstracts accepted for higher degrees by universities in Great Britain and Ireland since 1716.

  • Journal Citation Reports - A comprehensive resource that allows you to evaluate and compare journals using citation data drawn from over 11,000 scholarly and technical journals from more than 3,300 publishers in over 80 countries. It is the only source of citation data on journals, and includes virtually all areas of science, technology, and social sciences.

  • JSTOR - Archives of electronic journals in all subject disciplines, many going back to the 1850s.

  • New Scientist - New Scientist reports, explores and interprets the results of human endeavour set in the context of society and culture. We have archival back to 1989.

  • Oxford Dictionary of National Biography - An illustrated collection of 50,000 specially written biographies of the men and women who shaped all aspects of Britain's past, from the fourth century BC to the year 2000. Does not include living people.

  • Oxford English Dictionary - Web-based version of the Oxford English Dictionary.

  • Oxford Language Dictionaries Online - Searchable comprehensive bilingual dictionaries in French, German, Italian and Spanish. Also includes a range of study aids and grammar notes.

  • Periodicals Archive Online (ProQuest) - Backfiles of humanities and social sciences periodicals. The Archive provides full text access to digitised periodicals that have been indexed in its sister database, Periodicals Index Online.

  • Periodicals Index Online (ProQuest) - An electronic index to millions of articles published in over 5,000 periodicals in the humanities and social sciences.

  • ProQuest - The ProQuest platform incorporates all our subscribed ProQuest databases enabling you to find information within a database in a specific subject area or across databases. Research can encompass a variety of content types and formats, including leading journals, periodicals, news content, rare and archival information, dissertations, research reports, e-books, and multimedia—within and across subject areas.

  • Scopus - An abstract and citation database containing both peer-reviewed research literature and quality web sources. It offers researchers a quick, easy and comprehensive resource to support their research needs in the scientific, technical, medical and social sciences fields and, more recently, also in the arts and humanities.

  • The Times Digital Archive - The Times Digital Archive provides convenient access to an extraordinary library of back issues of this renowned newspaper online.

  • Times Higher Education (THE) - Source of information on higher education, bringing breaking news, analysis and lively debate for all higher education professionals as well as the latest jobs.

  • TLS Historical Archive 1902-2007 - The Times Literary Supplement Historical Archive, contains every page of every copy of the TLS published from 1902 to 2007.

  • Ulrichsweb.com - A search source of detailed information on more than 300,000 periodicals (also called serials) of all types: academic and scholarly journals, e-journals, peer-reviewed titles, popular magazines, newspapers, newsletters, and more.

  • Who's Who - Directory of the noteworthy and influential in all walks of life, in the UK and worldwide, published annually since 1849. Plus Who Was Who: over 100,000 entries from the archives of Who’s Who dating back to 1898: the definitive roll-call of the last 150 years of British history.
